Lets Rock out with Marshall

February 14th, 2013 by LaJollaHomeAudio No comments »

Marshall is a true rock legend. That uniquely clear and expressive sound combined with a mythical stage presence has captured music fans around the world for over FIVE DECADES! We are happy to announce that we have brought this amazing line to La Jolla Home Theater & Automation for your listening pleasure.

Hanwell Speaker

The story behind the sound:

The legacy began in a small drum shop in Hanwell in the 1960′s, where Jim Marshall sought to give a bunch of the then, local guitarists, the sound they wanted – a sound that was harder, crunchier and more rich. The result was the JTM45, an amp that reverberated with a sound that was much heavier than anything ever heard before. And in a twist of Rock N Roll fate, those guitarists, much like the Marshall name, would go on to revolutionize music forever. FIFTY YEARS on, generations of guitarists and fans still admire the name. Since that very first amp, Marshall continues to push the boundaries of LOUD into the unknown, bringing the stadium experience home to the individual listener. No brand has shaped Rock N Roll more then Marshall has. Like all supreme forms of life, Rock N Roll and Marshall rests on top of creation not as a result of conscious calculation, but has gained their symbiotic power by trusting instincts, being unpredictable and keeping both ears open.

You want it? We got it!

The Hanwell Speaker

Hanwell Speaker

The Hanwell embodies Marshall’s legacy of LOUD. Hailing from a line of 50th anniversary products, the Hanwell moves Marshall’s heritage of big stage performance out of the arena and into your personal space. Delivering a sound that resonates with the presence and power of live music. Its dual long-throw woofers produce super lows, and its hi-fi tweeters yield extended highs that render the sound sharp and clear, just like you’re sitting front row at your favorite show.

Major Headphones

The Major headphones enclose vast amounts of the Marshall legacy. The exterior of the headband is made out of the same vinyl used in Marshall amplifiers and it bears the original Marshall texture. Besides being straight up dazzling, the Major is built for great stamina, designed with non-stop, all day listening in mind.

Minor Headphones

The minor may look pristine, but this hardworking in ear model is always ready to rock. Besides the minor’s good looks, the patented ear-click solution ingeniously secures the ear piece into position at two separate points rather than one for maximum comfort. The minor also comes with inter-changable ear pads in Small, medium, and large for a custom fit, and is equipped with microphone and remote for use with your cell phone. combined with excellent audio and a tangle resistant fabric cord.

not everyone can be rockstars but that doesn’t mean we can’t pretend right? so slick your hair back, pull out the leather from the back of your closet, upload some Led Zepplin and Jimmy Hendrix to your iPhone and come on in, we’ll give you the listening experience of your life!

August 26th, 2011 by LaJollaHomeAudio 1 comment »

This revolutionized TV is brought to you by Apple. The device allows you to stream through multiple avenues and saves everything through your iTunes account. Your Apple TV can connect to a whole network of devices and websites, including external speakers, wireless router, iPhone, home computer, iTunes, and the iPad.

Setting up your Apple TV is simple. The instructions that come with the box are easy to follow:

1. When turning on your Apple TV, choose a Wi-Fi Network.

2. Connect to your network

- Type in your network’s password

- After a few seconds, the main Apple TV interface will be revealed on your TV screen

3. Turn on Home Sharing

-Selecting the Computers section will only reveal a ‘Turn on Home Sharing” option.

-Choose it and type in your Apple ID’s username and password (this will also set you up for the iTunes Store)

4. Browse an iTunes Library

-This action will enable your Apple TV to see any iTunes library on your network – (as long as you’ve turned on ‘Share my library on my local network in your Mac or PC’s iTunes preferences.)

The Apple TV Menu brings up the categories: Movies, Internet, Computers, and Settings.

1. Movies: It can connect to you iTunes account and you can search all types of movies according to genre, name, latest releases, etc.

2. Internet: It doesn’t give you full access to the internet but you can watch Youtube videos and listen to hundreds of internet radio stations

3. Computers: If you have more than one computer connected to your local network, each configured to share its iTunes library, they will appear under this menu, however you may only browse one library at a time.

4. Settings: This is where you can manage your iTunes account, set parental controls, enable a universal remote to control your Apple TV and control other general settings for the Apple TV.

Lastly, another great fact about Apple TV is it’s ONLY $99, which you can get through us! We even offer an in-house set-up & tutorial by one of our Apple Specialists for just $60.

Around the Corner: CEDIA 2011

September 6th, 2011 by LaJollaHomeAudio No comments »

The Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) will host its annual expo next week in Indianapolis.  CEDIA features hundreds of new products demonstrated by key manufactures in home electronics. In the weeks prior to the show, the editors of Electronics House have been busy with announcements from exhibitors from every sector of the home electronics industry: audio/video, home control, security, lighting control, equipment racks and mounts, and more. Here are three that caught Electronic House‘s eyes:

SmartEnergy Monitor from Savant
As the solo Apple-based home control system, Savant strives to make every product it introduces as visually appealing and engaging as possible. According to some pre-Expo literature, the SmartEnergy Monitor “measures energy usage and production in real-time and can also deliver historical usage data from multiple energy management devices …” You can monitor each and every aspect of electricity usage, from appliances to heating and lighting, and view your entire electricity usage or production at home or remotely.

Voco from Navvo
As the “world’s first voice controlled wireless music system,” the Voco system from Navvo  streams music from iPods, Internet radio, PCs, USB devices and Android phones and tablets to speakers throughout the house. With Voco, you tell your smart-phone or tablet what you want to hear, and the Voco system plays it. Voco connects wirelessly to your Wi-Fi Network to access digitial music and outputs it to your stereo.

Sliding Panel Mechanism from Future Automation

For every flat-panel TV that gets hung on the wall, there’s some product that can help it blend in better with the wall surface. Future Automation’s solution is one of the most effective. Instead of covering the panel with canvas artwork or playing a DVD so that the screen looks like a fish tank, the Sliding Panel System conceals the TV with a panel that matches the existing wall surface. The TV sits completely flush with the wall surface so that none of the TV’s inner workings are visible.

La Jolla Home Theater & Automation’s President, Otto Benson, will be attending CEDIA. Stay tuned for pictures!

Free Facebook App for iPad

October 11th, 2011 by LaJollaHomeAudio No comments »

Main Page:

Facebook has updated their app on iPads and iPhones and now for the iPad its FREE! Unlike the Facebook iPhone app, menu icons aren’t limited to the home screen.

For the new app, you have all your different menu selections on the left-hand side of the screen (without having to press the “home” button to direct you to a different place). It allows you to access your news feed, messages, notifications, events and more without having to navigate through page after page.

Photos

Photo albums are designed to look like the iPad’s Photo app.

People can now take photos or high-definition video from within the app. The images can then be tagged and automatically posted to the news feed.

Facebook has also integrated Airplay into the app which allows people to share images and video to a large-screen television that is connected to an Apple TV.

Nearby

Facebook is also making use of location services in its app in a new section called Nearby.  Nearby shows a map with little icons of your friends in the area. You can pinch and zoom into the map.

Clicking a person’s photo will allow you to leave a comment tied to the location. Facebook’s also gives people the ability to check-in to their location from within the app from the top right corner of the screen.

Apps

Apps are now a part of the menu in Facebook’s iPad app. You can launch your games and linked applications, like Instagram, Yelp, or Words with Friends. Facebook immediately launches iPad apps in new windows – it’s a pretty quick and handy way to switch apps!

To download the new, free Facebook iPad app, click here:

What Steve Left Us…

October 18th, 2011 by LaJollaHomeAudio No comments »

For all you who know him as Steve Jobs, the man who made Apple what it is today, he is a lot more than that. He was our modern day Einstein and much more. He gave us the personal computer, the mouse, the iPod, the iMac, and the iEVERYTHING… Well, you get the point. He was and will always be revered as a revolutionary icon in the area of technology and entertainment. When he left Apple to start Pixar, he gave us Toy Story and left another legacy behind, not only with the films he made, but with the software he developed and the business plan he implemented.

Today Apple runs off a similar business plan and with that said, don’t think for a second that Steve left Apple with nothing. It’s said that he has designs and products will continue to be released over the next 4 years. The reason we have the iPads, iPhones, Apple TV’s, and the really sweet line of computers is because he thought outside the box and kept it simple. On the iPad and the iPhone, there is one button on the front and everything else is touch. The computers are very user friendly and easy to use. Did you know that iPhone is also the first and possibly still the only multi-touch device that can be operated by the hearing and visually impaired. He made sure that everyone could use these “revolutionary and magical” devices. I think it was Apple who said revolutionary and magical and they really are.

Think for a second before the iPad was released, there was no market for tablets and no one was successful at creating one. He made an even bigger mark than before with the release of the iPad and this revolutionized the computing industry. Almost everywhere one travels, one can see an iPad or some other touchpad tablet device being used for personal entertainment or for business.

Walk into a Hyatt and you’ll see a direct result of how Steve Jobs gave so much to this world both in business use and personal entertainment. Stop focusing on hardware and focus on software for a second… iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, the advanced apps, and the most intelligent Operating System ever created OSX Lion. All these and much more on the iPhone and iPad are a result of Steve and the great minds assembled at Apple.

Yes, Apple does have a solid team of creative, driven, and talented individuals who when working with Steve made some of the most widely adaptive products since the toothbrush. Without Steve, you can expect the same, this user almost guarantees it. Even though Steve had his hand in everything, its the programmers, the designers, the web developers, the creative artists, the technicians, the testers, and everyone else that make Apple’s products so desirable. From the way they look to the way they work and what they can do, we as consumers love everything Apple and will continue to do so.

There is a lot to look forward to, like the next rumored and completely redesigned iPhone 5 which will probably be released in early 2012. Apple is working on faster chipsets for the next iPads and iPhones. There is also a rumor of an actual television that Apple is creating. I am excited to see how it interfaces with all the Apple products and whether it is like the Apple tv, if it has Gorilla Glass or what. If they do release a TV, it will be amazing. There is also talks of another mystery product that will be released and this Apple Guy’s sources don’t lie and this Apple Guy wont tell. Sorry folks, but you will have to wait and see.

It’s that “you’ll have to wait and see” that keeps the eyes of consumers on Apple. The best part is Apple knows this and they will strive to continue to produce “revolutionary and magical” products. They will also continue to lead the industry in electronics and other areas as well. Hmmmmm… Oh yeah, and have you seen their stock, it just had it’s highest ever close this past week. So, in closing, for all of you that think Apple is over, finished, done, kaput, finito… Think again, Steve has laid down the groundwork and all those Amazingly talented individuals that make Apple great will pick up right where he left off and give so much more than we as consumers could ever imagine.

Thanks.

Paul Haggar

iTunes Match is Launching Soon!

October 27th, 2011 by LaJollaHomeAudio 1 comment »

The iTunes Match was originally to-be-launched alongside iOS 5 but was pushed to the “end of October”. This service is still being tested by developers but they’re quietly preparing for its public launch.

We mentioned on our blog post Music Features from Apple: iTunes Match & Home Sharing, “iCloud will place all of your music whether its downloaded from another source other than iTunes or ripped from CDs and will match it and upgrade it to the songs that are available in the iTunes Store. Any music with a match is automatically added to your iCloud library for you to listen to anytime, on any Macs or iOS device. With 18 million songs in the iTunes store, iTunes will match your songs into the iCloud. If iTunes aren’t able to match songs, those are the only songs that you will need to upload to the Cloud yourself. All the music iTunes matches will play at plus quality, even if you original copy of the music was of lower quality. This feature is a subscription of only $24.99 a year!”

Apple has sent an email out to developers informing them that iTunes Match music libraries in iCloud will once again be wiped on Thursday, October 27th. Apple instructs developers to turn off iTunes Match on their computers and iOS devices during that time. The wipe may be in preparation for the public launch of iTunes Match.

.

.

This quick connect-lens device allows you to take pictures from three different lenses: Fish Eye, Macro, and Wide Angle. It is compatible with the iPhone4 and iPhone 4S. This convenient package solution fits directly into your pocket and only a little larger than a marble. It connects onto your iPhone and allows you to the capture the image that you want. Try out the different lenses by switching it over on either side.

 .

#3. Magic Trackpad

The new Magic Trackpad is the first Multi-Touch trackpad designed to work with your Mac desktop computer. It uses the same Multi-Touch technology you love on the MacBook Pro. And it supports a full set of gestures, giving you a whole new way to control and interact with what’s on your screen. Swiping through pages online feels just like flipping through pages in a book or magazine. And inertial scrolling makes moving up and down a page more natural than ever. Magic Trackpad connects to your Mac via Bluetooth wireless technology. Use it in place of a mouse or in conjunction with one.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Mac computer with Bluetooth wireless technology
  • Mac OS X v10.6.4 or later
  • Latest Magic Trackpad software update

Your fingers will fall for the Magic Trackpad. It’s made with smooth, wear-resistant glass that feels great to the touch. And it’s nearly 80 percent larger than the built-in trackpad on the MacBook Pro, giving you plenty of room to perform gestures. Because the entire surface of Magic Trackpad is a button, you can click on objects just as you would using a traditional mouse. And Magic Trackpad sits at the same height and angle as the Apple Wireless Keyboard, so you can go from trackpad to keyboard in one seamless motion.

What’s in the Box

  • Magic Trackpad
  • Two AA batteries
  • Printed documentation
Magic Trackpad sells for $69.00, but at La Jolla Home Theater & Automation we’re selling them $64.00!

#2. Magic Mouse

if the Magic Trackpad isn’t for you, here’s an alternative!

The new Magic Mouse redefines what a mouse should do. In addition to its smooth, seamless top-shell design that acts as one button or two, Magic Mouse features a Multi-Touch surface with gesture support. Scroll vertically, horizontally, and diagonally — a full 360 degrees — simply by touching anywhere on the top surface. With a greater surface area for scrolling, you can get around a long timeline in iMovie, through a lengthy web page in Safari, or around a set of images in iPhoto more efficiently. You can also swipe through pages in Safari or photos in iPhoto with two fingers. It’s the most advanced Apple mouse ever made. In addition, Magic Mouse works wirelessly with your Bluetooth-enabled Mac.

What’s in the Box

  • Magic Mouse
  • Two AA batteries
  • Printed documentation

The seamless, one-button design of Magic Mouse makes it simple to use right out of the box. But if you want the functionality of a two-button mouse, that’s easy, too. Just change the configuration in System Preferences. And the ambidextrous construction means Magic Mouse is great for lefties or righties.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Bluetooth-enabled Macintosh computer
  • Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0* or Mac OS X v10.6.1 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0

.

The Magic Mouse retails for $69.00, but we’re selling them for $64.00! Don’t wait in long lines at the mall, come by to get your Magic Mouse at our local store.

Coming this summer… OS X Mountain Lion!

February 16th, 2012 by LaJollaHomeAudio 2 comments »

Coming this summer is Apple’s OS X Mountain Lion! Apple is quick to move on new software and Mountain Lion features the following:

iCloud:  Sign in once with your Apple ID and iCloud is automatically set up across your Mac. That means right away iCloud keeps your mail, calendars, contacts, documents, and more up to date on every device you use. So when you add, delete, or edit something on your Mac, it happens on your iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. And vice versa.

iMessage: iMessage in iOS lets you send unlimited messages to anyone on a Mac or an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 5. You can see when your message has been delivered & when someone’s typing a reply. Turn on read receipts, & they’ll see when you’ve read a message. Start a conversation on your Mac and pick it up on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Reminders: Make as many lists as you need and easily add to them. Set due dates and you’ll get alerts as deadlines approach. Check items off your lists as you go and keep track of what you’ve completed. And to be sure you don’t forget anything, iCloud keeps your reminders up to date on your Mac, iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.

Notes: You can add, delete, and flip through your notes or do a quick search. Use the Share button to send your notes to friends or colleagues with Mail or Messages. Pin important notes to your desktop so they’re easy to get to. Notes works with iCloud, so when you create or edit a note on your Mac, it automatically updates on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Notification Center: Something new is always popping up somewhere on your Mac — an email, an instant message, a friend request, a calendar alert, and more. Notification banners appear on your desktop and disappear quickly so they don’t interrupt what you’re doing. Swipe to the left, and you’ll see all your notifications in a simple, ordered list.

Share Sheets: You’ll find the Share button in many OS X Mountain Lion apps. It’s the new, easy way to spread the word — links, photos, and videos, too. Send links from Safari. Send your notes via Mail and Messages. Post photos to Flickr. Send videos to Vimeo.

Twitter: Sign in once and you’re all set to start tweeting & you don’t have to leave the app you’re in. Tweet links & photos directly from Safari, iPhoto, or Photo Booth with the new Tweet Sheet. Tweet comments & add locations. When someone mentions you in a tweet or sends you a direct message, you’ll get a Twitter notification right then and there.

Game Center: Create a Game Center account with your Apple ID. Friends will find you fast, &  you’ll track them down easily. Get a multi player game started or go up against people you don’t know. Check out leader boards &  see how your high score ranks against opponents’ scores around the world. Discover new games based on the ones you & your friends already play.

AirPlay Mirroring: This new feature in Mountain Lion is made for an audience. With AirPlay Mirroring, you can stream what’s on your Mac to your HDTV via Apple TV. Show web pages and videos to friends on the couch. Share lessons with a classroom. Present to a conference room.

Gatekeeper: Gatekeeper in OS X Mountain Lion makes the Mac safer than ever. It helps prevent you from unknowingly downloading and installing malicious software. And it gives you control over which applications to download and run on your Mac. You can choose from three security options. Gatekeeper lets you decide which setting is best for you.

Once Mountain Lion is launched will we be having trainings  and workshops at La Jolla Home Theater & Automation to get you familiar and up to date with their new software. Stay tuned!

March 8th, 2012 by LaJollaHomeAudio No comments »

iPad 3 was announced today! With the stunning Retina Display, 5MP iSight camera, and ultra-fast 4G LTE for just $499.

.

Retina display. See everything like never before. Retina Display has four times more pixels than iPad 2. Razor-sharp text. Richer colors. The Retina display transforms the entire iPad experience. So everything looks and feels incredibly lifelike and perfectly detailed. (2048 x 1536 – 3.1 million pixels)

Pixel-perfect performance. The A5X chip with quad-core graphics drives four times the pixels of iPad 2 yet it delivers the same smoothness and fluidity iPad is known for. Even with all that extra oomph, the new iPad still gets an amazing 10 hours of battery life.

.

The iSight camera. Your memories have never been clearer. The new iPad features Apple’s 5-mega-pixel iSight camera. Designed with advanced optics, it lets you shoot gorgeous photos and 1080p HD video.

. .

Ultrafast 4G LTE. Full speed ahead. Built with the latest in wireless technology, the new iPad lets you connect to fast data networks around the world — up to 4G LTE. 4G LTE capability meaning very fast download speeds (73mbps on LTE).

Additional features:

•  Voice dictation

•  10 hour battery life, 9 hours on 4G.

•  9.4mm thin, weighing 1.4lbs.

.

Available for pre-order online now and available in stories on March 16th.

Apple also unveiled a new version of Apple TV, which will hit stores March 16 at a price of $99.

  • The device will feature high-definition video of 1080p, an upgrade from the 720p.
  • This version of the product has a simpler, icon-based interface that Apple says makes it easier to use than ever before.
  • Another noteworthy change is that the device will allow customers to purchase movies and television shows on iTunes, and, with the help of iCloud, stream them and watch them instantly on their HD TV sets. Content can also be streamed from Netflix, Vimeo and other providers.
  • Like its predecessor, the new Apple TV will incorporate AirPlay, a mechanism that allows for wireless streaming from an iPhone, iPad or iTouch to Apple TV.
For those who already own the previous version of the Apple TV, the new interface is easy to obtain. All it requires is a free software download, which is available beginning today, March 7. However, these users will have to purchase a new device to take advantage of the high-definition video.

The Starter Guide On Parental Controls For Apple Devices

May 10th, 2012 by LaJollaHomeAudio No comments »

This Saturday May 12th, we will be hosting our Kids & Technology Event. This FREE event will take place at our showroom from 12-4pm. One of our main features will be our Parents Corner. This will include an informative step by step demonstration to internet safety on iOS and OS X devices from our Apple Experts.

If you’ve got young children, chances are they’re already quite proficient at using Apple products. This is a new generation of techy little ones, and we’ve got our work cut out for us as we attempt to stay ahead of them. I’ll guess that you’re more concerned with protecting your children from the unknown dangers of the internet, but equally important is protecting your Mac and Apple devices from your children!

Luckily, if you’ve got a Mac, MacBook, iPad, iPod, or iPhone, OS X and iOS comes with some great Parental Controls and Restrictions built right into the operating system which will help you combat both of these situations. This post serves as a starter guide in locking down your devices and making it safe for your kids to use without your direct supervision.

Time Limits:

It is a common known fact that young kids can spend hours on end on their Macs, iPads, and iPhones. But the time spent can be restricted for what you feel is the appropriate amount of time on each device. Here are the step by step tools for control:

1.When you log onto your Mac or Macbook, on the top left – click on the Apple logo.

2. A drop down menu should appear, click on System Preferences.

3. The System Preferences folder will pop up. Under the tab, System - click on Parental Controls.

4. On the Parental Controls window, on the left side you will see all the login accounts on the device.

5. To add an account, simply click on the + sign on the bottom left to add an account.

6. After that is done, select the Account for which you would like to enable Parent Controls.

7. Once you click enable Parent Control, you will be brought to a page where you will see tabs at the top labeling the control options. Click on Time Limits.

8. You have the options of Weekday Time Limits, Weekend Time Limits, and Bed Time.

9. For each feature, click the amount of time limited for Weekday and/or Weekend. And for Bedtime, choose the hours of when the computer can be accessed.

10. Once all specifications are made, click on the lock image on the bottom left. Enter in the name and password that you use to log into your account.

11. Changes made and…Finito! – Simple right?! :)

To learn more about Parental Controls and Restrictions, join us this Saturday!

This event will also feature:

  • Kids using the iPad as a teaching tool, including educational apps.
  • Kaleidescape Kids – the first movie server for children. A hands on demo from the Kaleidescape Experts.
  • Kid Ventures will be hosting an arts & craft station.
  • Free family BBQ
  • Discounts on “Kid Friendly” products
  • Raffle prizes include: Apple training certificates, Kid Venture passes, Kaleidescape T-shirts, DVD openers, iPad cases, Screen Protectors and more!

The first 20 families attending will receive a kid-movie DVD! We hope to you on this afternoon of fun, food, entertainment, and education!

Get Complete Control of your Mac or PC from your iPad or iPhone

June 19th, 2012 by LaJollaHomeAudio 2 comments »

Maybe you forgot that important presentation from work on your PC,or forgot to send your sons graduation photos to your parents from your Mac, no need to worry because thanks to a wide range of VNC Clients you can now have complete Control of your PC or Mac straight from your iPad or iPhone on the go!

Here are some of our favorites for either little or NO COST!

CloudOn(FREE!)

If all you need is access to traditional, full-blown Microsoft Office-as opposed to the file compatibility then a new app called CloudOn gives you just that. The applications themselves run on the CloudOn servers, and although they look a little harsh when compared to the smooth characters and buttons on a native iOS app, they can’t be beaten for rock-solid compatibility. You need to have a Dropbox account for file storage, but this is all the better in our opinion as it means your synchronized documents will immediately appear on your regular computer so you can continue working on them when you get back to the office.

OnLive Desktop(FREE!)

You can also check out OnLive Desktop, which lets you access a Windows 7 PC complete with the Microsoft Office applications and 2GB of free storage.

LogMeIn Ingition (129.99)

LogMeIn’s Ignition  lets you control a remote Mac or PC courtesy of a free app installed on the client machine. It presents a copy of the remote desktop on your iPad or iPhone, which despite the device’s lower physical resolution, remains surprisingly usable on the portable device. It can wake a sleeping computer, so you don’t need to keep your desktop machine active to use it, and can control an unlimited number of machines, so you can access your home computer or your office machine.

Splahtop Remote Desktop ($19.99)

Splashtop Remote Desktop for iPad performs a similar function, locking on to a free client app -Splashtop Streamer - running on your Mac or PC across the internet or a local network. its fast and responsive, with plenty of useful gestures through which you can implement mouse clicks, right clicks, scrolls, and so on.

Make the best out of your Summer with these fun Summer Apps for iPhone or iPad

June 22nd, 2012 by LaJollaHomeAudio No comments »

Tops down, hair is blowing in the wind, kids are hitting the pool and the flight is booked for vacation… its SUMMER TIME! We did the research for you to make sure you have all the tools right at your finger tips to make it one for the record books! (and don’t worry we personally tested them to make sure they’re the best!)

1. iPump & Fitness Builder - since bikinis and board shorts are a must for summer, with the help of this app you will be beach bod ready in no time!

Price: $9.99

Though expensive, iPump is well worth the price. Stand-out features:

  • Workouts drawing from thousands of unique exercises and equipment including, weights, kettlebells, BOSU, foam roller, TRX, or no equipment needed at all!
  • Search workouts by location (hotel, home, gym, etc.), goal (arms, abs, cardio, etc.) or keyword.
  • An exercise database with incredible variety. My favorites – Core Yoga, Pilates, and 10 minute fat burner
  • Videos of each exercise.
  • The ability to edit workouts or create your own.
  • you can even set an entire work out plan and automatically set it to your calendar with motivational tips!
  • workouts are specialized per individual to fit your needs based on weight, height, gender and age!

I love that iPump offers such incredible variety in their workouts and exercises. Also available, iPump Trainer workouts for that extra push, for an extra fee.

2. timeRAZOR- Never miss out on awesome events wherever you are!

Price: FREE

This cool iPhone app is useful whether you are at home on a staycation or on vacation across the country. timeRAZOR gives you the scoop on all the cool events and activities happening wherever you are (or wherever you are going to be). Whether you are looking for free, fun activities for your kids or local nightlife for adults, you can easily find it with timeRAZOR. Stand Out Features

  • when signing up it asks for zip codes of where you live and work and where you may be in the future
  • links to your iCalander so you won’t double book events with errands or already planned outings
  • Separates events by age so you can find a fun 21+ concert or a family fun event for all ages
  • If you link to Facebook it pulls events based on your interest, so it will leave out that old folk concert for your grandparents (unless you’re into that sort of thing!)
I love that timeRazor is constantly updated so you don’t miss anything, now if only there were more hours in the day to enjoy every single thing!
3. Weber’s on the Grill App- Nothing says summer more than firing up a grill
Price: $4.99

Pool parties, bonfires and graduation parties, you can be the next grill master with  Weber’s on the Grill App. Stand out features:

  •  The slick app includes 250 grilling recipes from published Weber cookbooks, and each recipe is illustrated with a mouthwatering photo (hint: don’t try out this app on an empty stomach!).
  • the Weber’s grilling app includes a host of tips and techniques where you can learn how to trim a brisket or de-vein shrimp.
  • There’s also an integrated grill timer so you never leave the food on too long. The app is a bit on the expensive side, but grilling novices and masters alike will find something to like here.
I love that the app includes step by step instructions so even the worst cook in the world (me!) can even do it!
4. Pandora Radio App-is an excellent addition to a summer partyPrice: FreePandora Radio App since you don’t have to spend time creating a playlist – the app does it for you. Simply enter an artist you like and the Pandora app will create a customized playlist. If you prefer more variety, the app also includes playlists grouped by genre, including pop, rock, or oldies. Pandora has an excellent music selection, and the recommendations are usually spot on. You can also bookmark songs to buy later on iTunes. The more you interact and like or dislike the more likely your favorite hits will play.

5. Upacking list App http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/upackinglist/id323241118?mt=8 - Let’s face it. The most annoying part of any trip can be the packing

Price: Free

Some people like to pack over the course of a few days, and others like to shotgun the entire process overnight. I’ve tried doing it both ways and I always manage to forget something – tootbrush, cellphone charger, camera, sunglasses. Stand Out Features:

  • The app comes with 300 carefully thought-out items
  • and allows you to create unlimited lists.
  • As soon as you’re done creating a list, start packing and checking off the items in your list with a few simple taps!
Everything about this app i absolutely love! especially because when you are ready to come back home from your vacation everything your brought is saved on your phone so you won’t leave anything behind (if i had a nickel for every phone charger I’ve lost…)
Now go put on some sunscreen and soak up the sun! after all we only have 91 days of summer left!
Can you think of any others? we would love to hear your thoughts on other great summer apps!

2012 Retina Macbook Pro

June 27th, 2012 by LaJollaHomeAudio 2 comments »

The new 2012 15-Inch Retina MacBook Pro marks an evolution of the Mac: it’s the first of presumably the entire Mac line-up to get a Retina display, just like the iPhone and iPad.

Unlike the iPhone or iPad, however, the new Retina MacBook Pro is not aimed at the mass market. This is a professional machine, through and through.

The beauty of the Retina MacBook Pro’s display is like looking at living print. In addition the Retina MacBook Pro is the most powerful all-in-one professional notebook you can buy off the shelf using cutting-edge technology that it will take some time for the competition to catch-up with.

The new MacBook Pro has a number of impressive features over its evolutionary pregenitors, but the headlining improvement is that it’s the first Mac with a Retina display with a 2,880 x 1800 desktop resolution.

The last-generation MacBook Pro had 1,440 x 900 pixel display. The new MacBook Pros have four times as many pixels, clocking in at over five million pixels crammed into fifteen diagonal inches. Across the board, the Retina MacBook Pros have displays that seem more like windows to a world inside your Mac, as you increase pixel density in a display, you also increase the perceived realness of the objects onscreen. At a certain pixel density, on-screen objects actually become indistinguishable from real objects.

Color gamut and accuracy is so good; the only way you can get a display like this has traditionally been to pick up an expensive high-end display and have it professionally calibrated. The new Retina MacBook Pros do it all out of the box, with deeper and more accurate colors, the blackest and inkiest of blacks, and such wide viewing angles that even from the side, there are no visible color shifts.

These are all hallmarks of the in-plane switching (or IPS) LCD technology that Apple is using in the Retina MacBook Pro, and that’s worth crowing about, too: it’s the same technology Apple uses in the iPhone and iPad to give these devices a very wide view angle with no visible color shifts, and it’s almost unheard of to see laptops with IPS displays.

There’s another thing Apple did, though, to improve the clarity of the Retina MacBook Pro display. Apple’s been much criticised over the last few years for the “mirror” effect of their glossy screens. Sit in front of a modern Mac and you’re more often than not looking through your reflection. Glossy screens give better color accuracy, but suffer from being overly reflective; matte displays eliminate reflections, but are milkier than glossy ones.

With the Retina MacBook Pro, however, Apple managed to keep a glossy display while virtually eliminating reflectiveness. They accomplished this by fusing together the protective glass and underlying LCD to mitigate the mirror effect, eliminating the air gap usually found between glass and LCD through a process known as optical bonding. The result, Apple says, is a 75% decrease in reflectiveness, and while we have no way of confirming that, it’s undeniable that the Retina MacBook Pro display is the least reflective glossy Mac screen yet.

Apple just knocked it out of the park with the display on the new MacBook Pros.

July 25th, 2012 by LaJollaHomeAudio 2 comments »

RELEASED TODAY!

OS X Mountain Lion!

Now that Mountain Lion has launched will we be holding a training and workshop at La Jolla Home Theater & Automation to get you familiar and up to date with their new software. RSVP for August 11,2012!

Shark week gets even better.. shocking we know!

August 13th, 2012 by LaJollaHomeAudio 3 comments »

It’s that time of the year again where people of all ages, enthusiasts and scaredy-pants (like me) get glued to the TV and watch in awe the beautiful wonders of the great predators of the ocean, that’s right, its SHARK WEEK! Now that you have the Jaws theme song stuck in your head, have fun chumming the waters with these fun apps and ocean friendly products  to intensify your Shark week experience!

Shark Week Live App

This fun App is a great way to interact with other shark week loving enthusiasts. During the Shark Week programming on the Discovery Channel the Shark Week Live app dispenses trivia questions, additional photos, and “Did you know?” facts based around the programming being shown on the actual channel. Become a Shark Master as the trivia game ranks you against others also tuning in to the current program. Have questions or want to express how amazing that last breach was? Have no fear the chat feature is here! Post live comments to others or post directly from twitter by simply hash tagging “shark week” (#sharkweek)

Expedition White Shark App

Want to travel the oceans alongside great white sharks, but your busy schedule and fear of death always seem to get in the way? Don’t worry there’s an app for that. Now anyone with an iPhone or an iPad (and $3.99 to spare) can follow along, in near-real time, a dozen of the world’s most iconic predators with the app Expedition White Shark. The project is part of the Census of Marine Life, an ambitious 10-year, multinational effort to assess the state of the planet’s oceans, which contain more than 90 percent of the living space on Earth and are still largely unexplored. Keep up to date on “tagging” efforts and learn the unknown of the ocean with the Expedition White Shark App.

Phantom HD Gold

The best part about Discovery Channel’s Shark Week is hands-down the ultra-detailed, split-second slow-mos of great whites shooting out of the water like missiles, snatching unsuspecting seal pups between jagged rows of dagger-like teeth. It’s gruesome, terrifying and, for fairly obvious reasons, why we all can’t stop watching. The Phantom HD Gold ( of which there are only about 150 in the world) is the reason we get to experience the rush as if we were there on the boat itself. Shooting at 1,000 frames per second (used in Air Jaws Apocalypse). Now there’s an under-water housing for it, so viewers can actually see the sharks breach and views from underwater in a totally different way.

Wrist Mounted Computers

If watching the action through a screen isn’t enough, suit up and put that diving certification to use! With wrist-mounted computers, and personal computer decompression programs divers can calculate dive times and decompression times. Mixed gas dive computers are able to calculate decompression schedules for breathing gases other than air. Some of the most advanced mixed gas devices allow for emergency decompression plans to be computed for “on-the-fly” by divers in trouble. But don’t forget, for a SAFE shark diving expedition, dive plans must be established prior to the dive and you should not solely rely on the wrist computer itself .

LifeProof Case

For those of you who may catch yourself in a once in a lifetime Shark encounter then get yourself prepared with a LifeProof iPhone case! Your LifeProof™ everyday case for iPhone 4 or 4S is sleek, refined, convenient and unobtrusive. LifeProof has made a name for itself as a maker of super rugged iPhone and iPad cases that you can take in the ocean. The case vacuums against the glass panel on the iPad so that there’s no front screen protector and seals from any water coming into contact with your phone. However, if you do have a shark encounter I can not promise that it will withstand a shark bite!

Now that I’ve distracted your attention for long enough ( I mean shark week is ONLY a week-long, shame on me) have fun downloading and interacting with the apps and take your adventure to the next level with the ocean friendly products! If you know of any other great products feel free to let us know! on that note I’ll leave you with this awesome Shark Video  . enjoy :)

iOS 6 ins and outs

September 20th, 2012 by LaJollaHomeAudio 1 comment »

For those who arent able to jump on purchasing the long anticipated iPhone 5 right away, Apple has given its customers the opportunity to still enjoy the 200+ features of the new phone anyways! even though the hardware may be SO last season your software doesnt have to be! After spending 24 hours with the new software we’ve picked apart the major features and put together our list of pros and cons

This App is probably my most used feature on my phone, I’ve lived in the same city my entire life and still manage to get lost. ”Beautifully designed from the ground up (and the sky down), Maps changes the way you see the world. Map elements are vector based, so graphics and text are incredibly detailed — even when you zoom all the way in — and panning is smooth. Tilt and rotate to view an area, and Maps keeps the names of streets and places where they belong. Get visual and spoken turn-by-turn navigation and real-time traffic updates. Even soar over cityscapes to see the sights from the air in amazing, high-resolution quality.Learn more about Maps

Thoughts:Clearly the turn by turn features of this app are a huge improvement and i’m sure will cause less accidents. The real life city view is great if you are not familiar with your surroundings or are in a new town. I also love that it pings nearby businesses, so you may be getting your oil changed and decide to grab a bite to eat, apple maps will let you know you whats around without even searching for anything! one downfall ,it may just need time to update but it seems to not be 100% up to date on its business search. Places that were searchable in the past now do not come up. I think this may have to do with Apple creating its own “maps” instead of using “google maps”.

“With iOS 6, Siri understands more languages and works in more countries.2 So you can get more things done in more places around the world. Want to know the latest scores and stats for your favorite teams and players? Thanks to iOS 6, Siri knows the answers. Or maybe it’s movie night. Siri can show you the latest reviews and showtimes. Find the best restaurants in town and make reservations. Even have Siri open your apps for you — no tapping required. Say “Launch Flight Tracker” or “Open Angry Birds” and Siri does just that. You can also use Siri to post Facebook updates and tweet for you. Learn more about Siri

Thoughts: I have a love/hate relationship with Siri, and honestly its a very rare occasion when i do ask her for anything because i have found its faster to do it myself then repeat what i say 10 times. however with the new version it does seem that she knows more and could be potentially be more useful but i still cant see myself utilizing this function on a day to day basis.

Now it’s easier than ever to interact with the world’s largest social network. And there’s no need to leave your app to do it. Share a photo to Facebook right from Camera or Photos. Post your location right from Maps. Brag about a high score right from Game Center. If you have your hands full, just ask Siri to post for you. You need to sign in to Facebook only once, and you’ll be off and sharing. Never miss another birthday or get-together, since Facebook events are integrated into Calendar. And your Facebook friends’ profile information is integrated into Contacts, so when they update an email address or phone number you automatically stay up to date. Now that’s something to post about.

Thoughts:  If you are an avid facebook user then this is an awesome feature to have. Its much easier to share links while you’re browsing and i really like the capability to post a photo without having to go into the facebook app its self. this is a feature that i personally can see myself using daily, i just hope it doesn’t cause overkill!

Your boarding passes, movie tickets, retail coupons, loyalty cards, and more are now all in one place. With Passbook, you can scan your iPhone or iPod touch to check in for a flight, get into a movie, and redeem a coupon. You can also see when your coupons expire, where your concert seats are, and the balance left on that all-important coffee bar card. Wake your iPhone or iPod touch, and passes appear on your Lock screen at the appropriate time and place — like when you reach the airport or walk into the store to redeem your gift card or coupon. And if your gate changes after you’ve checked in for your flight, Passbook will even alert you to make sure you’re not relaxing in the wrong terminal.

Thoughts: honestly i haven’t been able to use this feature or even log in to check it out because every time i try too it says “can not connect to iTunes store” my co-worker is also having this issue,it may be a bug or it may be user error… this will be one we will have to get back to you on.

FaceTime now works over cellular networks as well as Wi-Fi, so you can make and receive FaceTime calls wherever you happen to be.3 You can even make and receive FaceTime calls on your iPad using your phone number. That means you can use FaceTime wherever you are, on any device. And never miss another wink, smile, air kiss, or eye roll.

Thoughts: I am really excited about this feature, and the reason is because i would never use facetime due to the fact that i always had to be on wifi. And since that was the case i would just end up using skype from my computer.

iOS 6 adds new calling features to your iPhone. Now when you decline an incoming call, you can instantly reply with a text message or set a callback reminder. And when things are just too hectic, turn on Do Not Disturb and you won’t be bothered by anyone — except can’t-miss contacts like your boss or your better half.

Thoughts: now you can ignore calls in style! I think this will be a good feature if you are in a meeting or in the middle of class and don’t have much time to draft your own message. I cant see myself using the “reply with message” feature often but personally i can see myself using the “remind me later” feature because i am the worse when it comes to calling people back!

As we play more with the new software we will be back with more updates, 200+ features are a lot to stumble upon, But i must say BY FAR my favorite feature is the newly added Emojis.. I dont know about you guys but i can write an entire sentence with those! let us know your thoughts on the new iOS 6 and and give us your reviews on it!

We will also be hosting a workshop October 6th to go over the ins and outs of the iOS 6 hosted by one of our apple specialist. you wont want to miss it!

Exciting releases from Apple on not just one, but 8 new products!

 iPad Mini

The new iPad mini is an iPad in every way, shape, but just a slightly smaller form. It features a beautiful 7.9-inch Multi-Touch display, powerful A5 chip, iSight camera with 1080p HD video recording, FaceTime HD camera, ultrafast wireless with support for LTE networks, and over 275,000 apps ready to download from the App Store. Its revolutionary design is 23 percent thinner and 53 percent lighter than the third-generation iPad. Apple wanted to create a tablet that could be used in schools to stay up to date on advancing technology and ultimately rid the era of text books

4th Generation iPad

The new 4th generation iPad features a gorgeous 9.7-inch Retina display, new Apple-designed A6X chip, FaceTime HD camera, and ultrafast wireless with support for LTE networks. iPad with Retina display is just as stunning and twice as fast.

13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display

Did you want the new retina display macbook but in a 13in? Well now you can! The all-new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display is the ideal notebook for enthusiasts and professionals looking for fast performance in a super-compact and light design. It features a stunning Retina display with over 4 million pixels, ultra-fast all-flash architecture, and the latest dual-core Intel processors. At a mere 0.75 inch and 3.57 pounds, the remarkably portable 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display is 20 percent thinner and almost a pound lighter than the current 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Slim and Redefined iMac

Finally the new and improved iMac we have all been waiting for! The new iMac features a beautiful widescreen display with 75 percent less reflection, the latest Intel quad-core processors, fast graphics, 8GB memory, and 1TB hard drive standard—all in an impossibly thin enclosure that’s only 5mm at the edge. iMac delivers even more performance with the latest high-speed I/O, including USB 3 and Thunderbolt, and an innovative new storage option called Fusion Drive that gives flash-like performance with the capacity of a hard drive. So slim you can turn it to its side and it almost disappears… ALMOST! One downfall to the new release is only the 21.5 inch screen will be available, until December when the 27 inch will become available.

Mac Mini

Mac mini brings the latest advanced technology to the most affordable Mac, while retaining its amazingly compact aluminum design. Featuring third-generation dual-core and quad-core Intel Core processors, Thunderbolt and USB 3 high-speed I/O, faster integrated graphics, and optional Fusion Drive, Mac mini delivers outstanding performance for everyday use.

For the booming musician, the updated Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.6 includes multichannel audio tools that allow for precise editing in the timeline, a unified import window that lets you access media from all sources, and support for native editing of RED.

If you are Apple enthusiasts like us, don’t delay and make sure you pre-order your favorite new product starting October 26th. If you aren’t quite sure which Apple product might work best for you, go ahead and give us a call and speak with one of our Apple Specialist!

Having a touch screen phone with very few actual buttons can sometimes create a hassle When the actual buttons break. I’ve had this situation and it challenges you to use creative ways to operate your phone.

The iPhone 5, which features a change to the anatomy of the home button, may solve this problem, but previous iPhone models are still susceptible to this common problem from every day wear and tear.

If you’re still within the provided one-year warranty and your phone doesn’t show signs of accidental damage, head on over to Apple. As long as you’re covered by warranty, the company will replace your phone or perform any necessary repairs.

Those who got hit with the home button plague after their warranty period,  give the following four fixes a try.

Just be warned: if you improperly perform solutions 2 and 3 and damage your phone, we don’t take responsibility.

Solution 1: Calibrate (and possibly restore)
If you’re lucky, your slow-to-respond home button is due to a software glitch. To find out, you’ll need to calibrate your home button. Here’s how:

Open up a stock app, like the Clock. Hold down the sleep button until “Slide to power off” appears. When it does, let go of the sleep button and hold down the home button. After about 5-10 seconds, the app will close.

If this solved your problem, you are one lucky iPhone owner. If it didn’t you may want to try restoring your iPhone before continuing to the second method.

Solution 2: Realign the docking port
There is a chance that through normal wear and tear, your phone’s docking port got misaligned, moving the home button along with it. Although a repair shop might suggest you replace the home button, this YouTuber offered a different solution.

Plug a USB cable into your iPhone. Then, gently push down on the 30-pin connector, so that it pushes up behind the home button. While you apply the pressure, click the home button. Remove the cable, and see if that fixed the problem.

Solution 3: Clean the home button
A splash of soda, sticky hands, dirt in the bottom of your purse or pocket — any of these things can damage your iPhone’s home button.

For this fix, you’ll need 98-99 percent isopropyl alcohol, which can be found at hardware stores. Using a cotton swab, eye dropper, or tissue, apply 2-3 drops of the isopropyl alcohol directly to the home button, avoiding the screen. Then, with a narrow, dull object (like the eraser on the back of a pencil), repeatedly tap the home button so that the alcohol seeps into the frame.

Wipe clean, and wait about 10-15 minutes before checking to see if that did the trick.

Solution 4: Enable the on-screen home button
If the previous three methods did not work, it sounds like perhaps you have a completely defunct home button. In this case, your home button’s connectors may have been misaligned and would require professional repair. (Or, if you’re willing to brave it, iFixit shows you how to DIY.)

The good news is, you can still use your phone using its on-screen home button. Normally, this is used as an accessibility option, but it’s also a common solution for those with non-functioning home buttons.

To enable the on-screen home button, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch. Turn Assistive Touch on, and you’ll see a small circle appear on screen.

Tapping that circle gives you four options: Home, Siri, More (for things like multitasking and playback controls), and Favorites. In your case, ignore Favorites, but tap this on-screen button whenever you need to access your home screen, activate Siri, or get all the options you’d normally see when you double-tap the home button.

If the on-screen home button ever gets in the way, simply tap and hold to drag it anywhere else along the frame of your screen.

It’s hardly an ideal solution, but it’ll hold you over until you’re ready to purchase a new phone or get your current one fixed.
