It’s that time of the year again where people of all ages, enthusiasts and scaredy-pants (like me) get glued to the TV and watch in awe the beautiful wonders of the great predators of the ocean, that’s right, its SHARK WEEK! Now that you have the Jaws theme song stuck in your head, have fun chumming the waters with these fun apps and ocean friendly products to intensify your Shark week experience!
Shark Week Live App
This fun App is a great way to interact with other shark week loving enthusiasts. During the Shark Week programming on the Discovery Channel the Shark Week Live app dispenses trivia questions, additional photos, and “Did you know?” facts based around the programming being shown on the actual channel. Become a Shark Master as the trivia game ranks you against others also tuning in to the current program. Have questions or want to express how amazing that last breach was? Have no fear the chat feature is here! Post live comments to others or post directly from twitter by simply hash tagging “shark week” (#sharkweek)

Want to travel the oceans alongside great white sharks, but your busy schedule and fear of death always seem to get in the way? Don’t worry there’s an app for that. Now anyone with an iPhone or an iPad (and $3.99 to spare) can follow along, in near-real time, a dozen of the world’s most iconic predators with the app Expedition White Shark. The project is part of the Census of Marine Life, an ambitious 10-year, multinational effort to assess the state of the planet’s oceans, which contain more than 90 percent of the living space on Earth and are still largely unexplored. Keep up to date on “tagging” efforts and learn the unknown of the ocean with the Expedition White Shark App.

The best part about Discovery Channel’s Shark Week is hands-down the ultra-detailed, split-second slow-mos of great whites shooting out of the water like missiles, snatching unsuspecting seal pups between jagged rows of dagger-like teeth. It’s gruesome, terrifying and, for fairly obvious reasons, why we all can’t stop watching. The Phantom HD Gold ( of which there are only about 150 in the world) is the reason we get to experience the rush as if we were there on the boat itself. Shooting at 1,000 frames per second (used in Air Jaws Apocalypse). Now there’s an under-water housing for it, so viewers can actually see the sharks breach and views from underwater in a totally different way.

If watching the action through a screen isn’t enough, suit up and put that diving certification to use! With wrist-mounted computers, and personal computer decompression programs divers can calculate dive times and decompression times. Mixed gas dive computers are able to calculate decompression schedules for breathing gases other than air. Some of the most advanced mixed gas devices allow for emergency decompression plans to be computed for “on-the-fly” by divers in trouble. But don’t forget, for a SAFE shark diving expedition, dive plans must be established prior to the dive and you should not solely rely on the wrist computer itself .

For those of you who may catch yourself in a once in a lifetime Shark encounter then get yourself prepared with a LifeProof iPhone case! Your LifeProof™ everyday case for iPhone 4 or 4S is sleek, refined, convenient and unobtrusive. LifeProof has made a name for itself as a maker of super rugged iPhone and iPad cases that you can take in the ocean. The case vacuums against the glass panel on the iPad so that there’s no front screen protector and seals from any water coming into contact with your phone. However, if you do have a shark encounter I can not promise that it will withstand a shark bite!

Now that I’ve distracted your attention for long enough ( I mean shark week is ONLY a week-long, shame on me) have fun downloading and interacting with the apps and take your adventure to the next level with the ocean friendly products! If you know of any other great products feel free to let us know! on that note I’ll leave you with this awesome Shark Video . enjoy
