iTunes 11 Released

November 29th, 2012

Its FINALLY Here!

The long anticipated iTunes 11 has finally been released. Since its last update in September 2010, Apple has added additional features like iTunes Match, iTunes in the cloud, and 1080p videos from the iTunes Store. The new iTunes is expected to come with an entirely revamped user interface, Facebook and Twitter integration, and deeper iCloud support. It will also remove the failed music-focused social network Ping.

To better understand what to expect when you click the exciting “Download” button in your app store, lets take a stroll through all of the new features!

New Library Interface- with extended viewing pleasure

Select one of your albums and now it will expand in place. That means you can see all the songs on the album, click Play, and keep right on browsing without having to click back to your library. You’ll also see In the Store recommendations for similar albums you’ll want to check out.

New itty bitty Media Player

Apple squeezed more features into an even smaller MiniPlayer. Now you can click the “Up Next button” to see which songs are playing next. Not the song you wanted? thats ok now you can search your library with a “spotlight” feature without having to open your library!

Bonus Features and Recommendations

Good recommendations are easy to come by, thanks to “In the Store picks”. Select an album, artist, or genre you like, and iTunes will suggest similar music, similar to the genius feature .

iCloud Does even More- Pick up where you left off at

Start a movie, TV show, podcast, iTunes U lesson, or audiobook on one device. Pause anytime, and you can pick it up later on another device. iCloud remembers right where you left off. It’s just smart that way.

Those are OUR favorite new features. What are yours?

If you have any issues updating please give one of our apple specialist a call at 858-756-5606 and we will be more then happy to walk you through set up!

New releases from Apple

October 24th, 2012

Exciting releases from Apple on not just one, but 8 new products!

 iPad Mini

The new iPad mini is an iPad in every way, shape, but just a slightly smaller form. It features a beautiful 7.9-inch Multi-Touch display, powerful A5 chip, iSight camera with 1080p HD video recording, FaceTime HD camera, ultrafast wireless with support for LTE networks, and over 275,000 apps ready to download from the App Store. Its revolutionary design is 23 percent thinner and 53 percent lighter than the third-generation iPad. Apple wanted to create a tablet that could be used in schools to stay up to date on advancing technology and ultimately rid the era of text books

4th Generation iPad

The new 4th generation iPad features a gorgeous 9.7-inch Retina display, new Apple-designed A6X chip, FaceTime HD camera, and ultrafast wireless with support for LTE networks. iPad with Retina display is just as stunning and twice as fast.

13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display

Did you want the new retina display macbook but in a 13in? Well now you can! The all-new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display is the ideal notebook for enthusiasts and professionals looking for fast performance in a super-compact and light design. It features a stunning Retina display with over 4 million pixels, ultra-fast all-flash architecture, and the latest dual-core Intel processors. At a mere 0.75 inch and 3.57 pounds, the remarkably portable 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display is 20 percent thinner and almost a pound lighter than the current 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Slim and Redefined iMac

Finally the new and improved iMac we have all been waiting for! The new iMac features a beautiful widescreen display with 75 percent less reflection, the latest Intel quad-core processors, fast graphics, 8GB memory, and 1TB hard drive standard—all in an impossibly thin enclosure that’s only 5mm at the edge. iMac delivers even more performance with the latest high-speed I/O, including USB 3 and Thunderbolt, and an innovative new storage option called Fusion Drive that gives flash-like performance with the capacity of a hard drive. So slim you can turn it to its side and it almost disappears… ALMOST! One downfall to the new release is only the 21.5 inch screen will be available, until December when the 27 inch will become available.

Mac Mini

Mac mini brings the latest advanced technology to the most affordable Mac, while retaining its amazingly compact aluminum design. Featuring third-generation dual-core and quad-core Intel Core processors, Thunderbolt and USB 3 high-speed I/O, faster integrated graphics, and optional Fusion Drive, Mac mini delivers outstanding performance for everyday use.

iBooks 3 and iBooks Author

With the updated iBooks 3 app, browse through your purchased books in iCloud, look up word definitions in six languages, and share your reading experience with friends. And the updated iBooks Author app includes galleries, video, and interactive diagrams that bring content to life in ways the printed page never could.

Final Cut Pro X

For the booming musician, the updated Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.6 includes multichannel audio tools that allow for precise editing in the timeline, a unified import window that lets you access media from all sources, and support for native editing of RED.

If you are Apple enthusiasts like us, don’t delay and make sure you pre-order your favorite new product starting October 26th. If you aren’t quite sure which Apple product might work best for you, go ahead and give us a call and speak with one of our Apple Specialist!

iOS 6 ins and outs

September 20th, 2012

For those who arent able to jump on purchasing the long anticipated iPhone 5 right away, Apple has given its customers the opportunity to still enjoy the 200+ features of the new phone anyways! even though the hardware may be SO last season your software doesnt have to be! After spending 24 hours with the new software we’ve picked apart the major features and put together our list of pros and cons

This App is probably my most used feature on my phone, I’ve lived in the same city my entire life and still manage to get lost. ”Beautifully designed from the ground up (and the sky down), Maps changes the way you see the world. Map elements are vector based, so graphics and text are incredibly detailed — even when you zoom all the way in — and panning is smooth. Tilt and rotate to view an area, and Maps keeps the names of streets and places where they belong. Get visual and spoken turn-by-turn navigation and real-time traffic updates. Even soar over cityscapes to see the sights from the air in amazing, high-resolution quality.Learn more about Maps

Thoughts:Clearly the turn by turn features of this app are a huge improvement and i’m sure will cause less accidents. The real life city view is great if you are not familiar with your surroundings or are in a new town. I also love that it pings nearby businesses, so you may be getting your oil changed and decide to grab a bite to eat, apple maps will let you know you whats around without even searching for anything! one downfall ,it may just need time to update but it seems to not be 100% up to date on its business search. Places that were searchable in the past now do not come up. I think this may have to do with Apple creating its own “maps” instead of using “google maps”.

“With iOS 6, Siri understands more languages and works in more countries.2 So you can get more things done in more places around the world. Want to know the latest scores and stats for your favorite teams and players? Thanks to iOS 6, Siri knows the answers. Or maybe it’s movie night. Siri can show you the latest reviews and showtimes. Find the best restaurants in town and make reservations. Even have Siri open your apps for you — no tapping required. Say “Launch Flight Tracker” or “Open Angry Birds” and Siri does just that. You can also use Siri to post Facebook updates and tweet for you. Learn more about Siri

Thoughts: I have a love/hate relationship with Siri, and honestly its a very rare occasion when i do ask her for anything because i have found its faster to do it myself then repeat what i say 10 times. however with the new version it does seem that she knows more and could be potentially be more useful but i still cant see myself utilizing this function on a day to day basis.

Now it’s easier than ever to interact with the world’s largest social network. And there’s no need to leave your app to do it. Share a photo to Facebook right from Camera or Photos. Post your location right from Maps. Brag about a high score right from Game Center. If you have your hands full, just ask Siri to post for you. You need to sign in to Facebook only once, and you’ll be off and sharing. Never miss another birthday or get-together, since Facebook events are integrated into Calendar. And your Facebook friends’ profile information is integrated into Contacts, so when they update an email address or phone number you automatically stay up to date. Now that’s something to post about.

Thoughts:  If you are an avid facebook user then this is an awesome feature to have. Its much easier to share links while you’re browsing and i really like the capability to post a photo without having to go into the facebook app its self. this is a feature that i personally can see myself using daily, i just hope it doesn’t cause overkill!

Your boarding passes, movie tickets, retail coupons, loyalty cards, and more are now all in one place. With Passbook, you can scan your iPhone or iPod touch to check in for a flight, get into a movie, and redeem a coupon. You can also see when your coupons expire, where your concert seats are, and the balance left on that all-important coffee bar card. Wake your iPhone or iPod touch, and passes appear on your Lock screen at the appropriate time and place — like when you reach the airport or walk into the store to redeem your gift card or coupon. And if your gate changes after you’ve checked in for your flight, Passbook will even alert you to make sure you’re not relaxing in the wrong terminal.

Thoughts: honestly i haven’t been able to use this feature or even log in to check it out because every time i try too it says “can not connect to iTunes store” my co-worker is also having this issue,it may be a bug or it may be user error… this will be one we will have to get back to you on.

FaceTime now works over cellular networks as well as Wi-Fi, so you can make and receive FaceTime calls wherever you happen to be.3 You can even make and receive FaceTime calls on your iPad using your phone number. That means you can use FaceTime wherever you are, on any device. And never miss another wink, smile, air kiss, or eye roll.

Thoughts: I am really excited about this feature, and the reason is because i would never use facetime due to the fact that i always had to be on wifi. And since that was the case i would just end up using skype from my computer.

iOS 6 adds new calling features to your iPhone. Now when you decline an incoming call, you can instantly reply with a text message or set a callback reminder. And when things are just too hectic, turn on Do Not Disturb and you won’t be bothered by anyone — except can’t-miss contacts like your boss or your better half.

Thoughts: now you can ignore calls in style! I think this will be a good feature if you are in a meeting or in the middle of class and don’t have much time to draft your own message. I cant see myself using the “reply with message” feature often but personally i can see myself using the “remind me later” feature because i am the worse when it comes to calling people back!

As we play more with the new software we will be back with more updates, 200+ features are a lot to stumble upon, But i must say BY FAR my favorite feature is the newly added Emojis.. I dont know about you guys but i can write an entire sentence with those! let us know your thoughts on the new iOS 6 and and give us your reviews on it!

We will also be hosting a workshop October 6th to go over the ins and outs of the iOS 6 hosted by one of our apple specialist. you wont want to miss it!

OS X Mountain Lion Released Today!

July 25th, 2012

RELEASED TODAY!

OS X Mountain Lion! Apple is quick to move on new software and Mountain Lion features the following:

iCloud:  Sign in once with your Apple ID and iCloud is automatically set up across your Mac. That means right away iCloud keeps your mail, calendars, contacts, documents, and more up to date on every device you use. So when you add, delete, or edit something on your Mac, it happens on your iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. And vice versa.

iMessage: iMessage in iOS lets you send unlimited messages to anyone on a Mac or an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 5. You can see when your message has been delivered & when someone’s typing a reply. Turn on read receipts, & they’ll see when you’ve read a message. Start a conversation on your Mac and pick it up on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Reminders: Make as many lists as you need and easily add to them. Set due dates and you’ll get alerts as deadlines approach. Check items off your lists as you go and keep track of what you’ve completed. And to be sure you don’t forget anything, iCloud keeps your reminders up to date on your Mac, iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.

Notes: You can add, delete, and flip through your notes or do a quick search. Use the Share button to send your notes to friends or colleagues with Mail or Messages. Pin important notes to your desktop so they’re easy to get to. Notes works with iCloud, so when you create or edit a note on your Mac, it automatically updates on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Notification Center: Something new is always popping up somewhere on your Mac — an email, an instant message, a friend request, a calendar alert, and more. Notification banners appear on your desktop and disappear quickly so they don’t interrupt what you’re doing. Swipe to the left, and you’ll see all your notifications in a simple, ordered list.

Share Sheets: You’ll find the Share button in many OS X Mountain Lion apps. It’s the new, easy way to spread the word — links, photos, and videos, too. Send links from Safari. Send your notes via Mail and Messages. Post photos to Flickr. Send videos to Vimeo.

Twitter: Sign in once and you’re all set to start tweeting & you don’t have to leave the app you’re in. Tweet links & photos directly from Safari, iPhoto, or Photo Booth with the new Tweet Sheet. Tweet comments & add locations. When someone mentions you in a tweet or sends you a direct message, you’ll get a Twitter notification right then and there.

Game Center: Create a Game Center account with your Apple ID. Friends will find you fast, &  you’ll track them down easily. Get a multi player game started or go up against people you don’t know. Check out leader boards &  see how your high score ranks against opponents’ scores around the world. Discover new games based on the ones you & your friends already play.

AirPlay Mirroring: This new feature in Mountain Lion is made for an audience. With AirPlay Mirroring, you can stream what’s on your Mac to your HDTV via Apple TV. Show web pages and videos to friends on the couch. Share lessons with a classroom. Present to a conference room.

Gatekeeper: Gatekeeper in OS X Mountain Lion makes the Mac safer than ever. It helps prevent you from unknowingly downloading and installing malicious software. And it gives you control over which applications to download and run on your Mac. You can choose from three security options. Gatekeeper lets you decide which setting is best for you.

Now that Mountain Lion has launched will we be holding a training and workshop at La Jolla Home Theater & Automation to get you familiar and up to date with their new software. RSVP for August 11,2012!

Tagg

HOW THE TAGG SYSTEM WORKS

The Tagg pet tracking system uses advanced GPS tracking technology to allow you to see where your dog is and receive a notification if he or she wanders off. The lightweight tracker attaches to your dog’s existing collar, and is designed to be worn at all times, even while swimming.

Dog Collar Attachment

The Tagg tracker securely attaches to your dog’s collar with a two-piece clip. Once the collar clip assembly is attached, putting on the pet GPS device is a snap. If your dog has multiple collars, we recommend one collar clip assembly per collar.

Notifications

Whether it’s a text message about your dog leaving the Tagg zone or an email reminding you it’s time to charge your tracker, Tagg notifications make it the most efficient dog tracker on the market.

Locate your pet

Pinpoint your dog’s whereabouts on the Tagg Map.  After you locate him, zoom in.  Take a look at his exact location on a computer, smartphone, or using the Tagg mobile app.  Need directions?  They’ll provide that too!

  • and allows you to create unlimited lists.
  • As soon as you’re done creating a list, start packing and checking off the items in your list with a few simple taps!

Now go put on some sunscreen and soak up the sun! after all we only have 91 days of summer left!
Can you think of any others? we would love to hear your thoughts on other great summer apps!

Get Complete Control of your Mac or PC from your iPad or iPhone

June 19th, 2012

Maybe you forgot that important presentation from work on your PC,or forgot to send your sons graduation photos to your parents from your Mac, no need to worry because thanks to a wide range of VNC Clients you can now have complete Control of your PC or Mac straight from your iPad or iPhone on the go!

Here are some of our favorites for either little or NO COST!

CloudOn(FREE!)

If all you need is access to traditional, full-blown Microsoft Office-as opposed to the file compatibility then a new app called CloudOn gives you just that. The applications themselves run on the CloudOn servers, and although they look a little harsh when compared to the smooth characters and buttons on a native iOS app, they can’t be beaten for rock-solid compatibility. You need to have a Dropbox account for file storage, but this is all the better in our opinion as it means your synchronized documents will immediately appear on your regular computer so you can continue working on them when you get back to the office.

OnLive Desktop(FREE!)

You can also check out OnLive Desktop, which lets you access a Windows 7 PC complete with the Microsoft Office applications and 2GB of free storage.

LogMeIn Ingition (129.99)

LogMeIn’s Ignition  lets you control a remote Mac or PC courtesy of a free app installed on the client machine. It presents a copy of the remote desktop on your iPad or iPhone, which despite the device’s lower physical resolution, remains surprisingly usable on the portable device. It can wake a sleeping computer, so you don’t need to keep your desktop machine active to use it, and can control an unlimited number of machines, so you can access your home computer or your office machine.

Splahtop Remote Desktop ($19.99)

Splashtop Remote Desktop for iPad performs a similar function, locking on to a free client app -Splashtop Streamer - running on your Mac or PC across the internet or a local network. its fast and responsive, with plenty of useful gestures through which you can implement mouse clicks, right clicks, scrolls, and so on.
